Dear Friends,

WELCOME TO THE MIGHTY VIKING BAND!

Auditions for the Concert Bands at WSHS for incoming freshmen will be held on two evenings at Woodbridge High School in the band room. The auditions will be on Tuesday June 7 and Thursday June 9 starting at 6:30 PM and going until 8:30 PM. These auditions are for incoming freshmen wishing to be placed in an advanced concert band. An audition is not required to join the band program or the Marching Band. Freshmen already enrolled in the Performing Arts program are already placed in Concert or Symphonic Band and do not need to audition. Students that do not audition will automatically be placed in the 9th Grade "Varsity" Band.

Audition Requirements- Woodwinds and Brass have the same requirements as middle school All-District. You will be asked two major scales, your chromatic scale, and sight-reading. Percussionists will be asked to play three rudiments including the long roll on snare, sight-reading, and two major scales on mallets. All musicians in Marching Band must be enrolled in a concert band class!! (County Policy)

Symphonic Band- The top performing group involving advanced instrumental students. Membership is by audition only and balanced instrumentation is a factor in membership selection.

Concert Band- A performing group for upperclassmen and advanced freshmen by audition. This ensemble requires extra practice and performance with and emphasis on strengthening fundamental skills and preparing students for Symphonic Band.

9th Grade Band- A performing group for 9th grade students with an emphasis on intense instrumental training of scales, articulation, and flexibility on the given instrument. The group performs several times a year and students are given the opportunity to work with advanced upperclassmen student aides.

IMPORTANT DATES: THURSDAY May 26, 7PM Marching Band Info night for parents and read through rehearsal for all students. Marching Band Camp August 15-26 at WSHS, this is mandatory for all marching band members. More info to come!!!!

PARENTS: To confirm your child's participation in the WSHS Band Program, please email me your name, student's name, instrument, address, phone number, and email address so that we can put you on all of our contact lists. LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN MARCHING BAND! We need this information to reserve a spot on the field for your child.
