What is a Band Booster?

The Woodbridge Senior High School Band Boosters is an organization of parents dedicated to supporting all the wind bands, ensembles and related performance groups such as color guard and indoor guard at WSHS.

The boosters sponsor fundraising events throughout the year to pay for expenses incurred by the bands. Boosters also volunteer time to serve the bands in many capacities. Chaperones, equipment handlers and uniform cleaning are just a few of the many tasks boosters perform.

The WSHS band program is one of Virginia's elite high school music programs, winning "Honor Band" designation 13 times from the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association.

To support that high level of performance, the band boosters are active year-round with events that generate income, recognize student accomplishments and perpetuate the program.

Major events such as the summer fireworks sale, fall tag day and spring circus are significant sources of income and require the participation of many parent and student volunteers to succeed.

Through a special arrangement with George Mason University's Patriot Center concession operator, students and parents can earn money that is deposited into individual student accounts. The funds can be spent to offset almost any music-related expense.

Each summer, there is an Ice Cream Social at the school to help ease new students and parents into the program and to kick-off the marching band season. In August, there is a "Show & Tell" night where the marching band and color guard give their first performances and everyone gets to enjoy a potluck dinner afterward.

Later in the year, there is a band banquet to honor departing seniors and marching band section leaders. In the spring, varsity letters and other awards are handed out during the annual band picnic.

Joining the band boosters is a wonderful opportunity to stay involved with your child during his or her high school years and it is a great way to meet some wonderful parents.
